Maxwell Lemuel Roach\u00a0(January 8\/10, 1924 \u2013 August 16, 2007) was an American\u00a0jazz\u00a0drummer\u00a0and\u00a0composer. A pioneer of\u00a0bebop, he worked in many other styles of music, and is generally considered one of the most important drummers in history.[1][2]\u00a0He worked with many famous jazz musicians, including\u00a0Clifford Brown,\u00a0Coleman Hawkins,\u00a0Dizzy Gillespie,\u00a0Charlie Parker,\u00a0Miles Davis,\u00a0Duke Ellington,\u00a0Thelonious Monk,\u00a0Abbey Lincoln,\u00a0Dinah Washington,\u00a0Charles Mingus,\u00a0Billy Eckstine,\u00a0Stan Getz,\u00a0Sonny Rollins,\u00a0Eric Dolphy, and\u00a0Booker Little. He also played with his daughter Maxine Roach, Grammy nominated Violist. He was inducted into the\u00a0DownBeat\u00a0Hall of Fame in 1980 and the\u00a0Modern Drummer\u00a0Hall of Fame in 1992.<\/span><\/p>\n
